Russell Barrow has stepped down as global head of multi-asset and alternative investments at abrdn to take on a role at a non-competing firm.

Darren Wolf, who has been global head of investments for abrdn’s alternative investment solutions business since 2016, will replace him.

Chief investment officer Peter Branner said: “Darren has led our alternative investment strategies team for the past decade, overseeing the management of over $15bn of assets across hedge funds, private credit and risk mitigation.”

Wolf added: “It is an incredibly exciting time to be stepping into this role. The continued growth of client solutions across our multi-asset and alternatives business positions us well for future success.”

Additionally, BlackRock’s Christian Howells is returning to abrdn as head of investment specialists for multi-asset and alternatives. He was a senior investment specialist at abrdn earlier in his career so he already knows many of the firm’s clients.
