Some 82% of financial advisers expect to increase their use of model portfolio services (MPS) over the next two to three years, according to research from Nedgroup Investments.

Of those planning to increase their use of MPS, 34% said they would do so significantly while 48% expect a smaller increase. Just 4% of advisers overall anticipate reducing their use of MPS, and 14% expect it to stay about the same over the period.

Among independent financial advisers (IFAs) surveyed, all said they already use MPS as part of their client offering, with 64% doing so for most of their clients.

Third-party MPS accessed via platform was the most common delivery method, cited by 24% of respondents. MPS run by a discretionary fund manager (DFM) and multi-asset funds were each used by 22%, while 18% relied on in-house model portfolios and 14% used bespoke DFM portfolios.

Apiramy Jeyarajah, chief commercial officer at Nedgroup Investments, said the findings show MPS will become “an even more integral part” of the adviser market in the coming years.

“With over 80% of advisers expecting to increase their use of MPS over the next two-to-three years, we can see growing confidence in outsourced investment solutions, as firms look to deliver consistent client outcomes, improve efficiency and enable advisers to spend more time where they add the greatest value: helping their clients achieve their financial goals,” she said.

“It’s significant that every adviser surveyed is already using an MPS in some capacity, with two-thirds using them heavily for most of their clients. The direction of travel is clear, demand for scalable, professionally managed investment solutions will continue to grow.”

The survey was carried out by Censuswide among 100 finance professionals, with fieldwork conducted between 22 and 26 May 2026.
